Saved shopping carts

In your store, the shopping cart is the first step toward checkout. All shopping carts started by customers are saved and can be viewed from the admin panel.

You can find saved shopping carts under Sales -> Carts.

About saved shopping carts

A shopping cart is saved immediately when a customer adds the first product to it. This differs from the common practice of saving a cart only when a customer proceeds to checkout. With this approach, you get more detailed information about the shopping carts your customers start.

Saved shopping carts are not orders, and most will never become orders. Customers often add items to their carts but leave without completing the purchase or return later to finalize their shopping. When a customer places an order, the shopping cart is removed from here and transferred to the orders list.

Viewing saved shopping carts

Clicking on a cart from the list lets you see more detailed information.

Some carts may contain only one product without any customer details, while others may include the customer’s complete contact information. The details are updated as the customer progresses through the ordering process.

Product reservation time

When customers add products to their shopping carts, the system reserves the inventory for those products. If the order is not completed, the reserved inventory is released back for sale. The default reservation time is 15 minutes, but this can be adjusted in your store settings.

Reservations prevent overselling and apply only to products with inventory quantities set. You can manually remove reservations from a saved shopping cart by clicking Remove reservation, or extend the reservation for an additional 30 days using the Extend button.

Converting a saved shopping cart into an order

You can convert a saved shopping cart into an order by creating an order from it. When you create an order, the shopping cart becomes a new entry in the orders list.

Only create orders from saved carts if you have explicitly agreed on the purchase with the customer or if payment for the cart has already been received and needs to be moved to the orders list.

A successfully placed order by the customer will automatically appear in the orders list.
