Adding languages to your online store

How to add new languages to your online store.

Updated this week

About language versions

A Finqu online store can be translated into multiple languages. The availability of language versions depends on your selected service plan. See: https://finqu.com/pricing

Adding a language to your Finqu account

Start by enabling the new language in your Finqu account:

  1. Go to Top right corner > General settings.

  2. Click the Edit button in the Localization section.

  3. Add the desired languages and save.

Adding translations

Once you’ve added the language to your Finqu account, you can translate product details and more. If you don’t see the language-specific fields (e.g., on a product page), scroll to the bottom and click the Change language button. From there, you can select the language for both viewing and editing page content in that language.

Enabling the language in your store & theme texts

To enable the language in your store:

  1. Go to Online store > Settings.

  2. In the Localization section, select the languages you want.

  3. Save from the top right.

Once enabled, you can edit your theme’s texts:

In the theme editor (Online store > Edit), use the top menu to choose the language you want to edit. In each section on the page, there’s a small language icon (top right) to activate translations. Once enabled, you can type translations directly into each section (make sure the correct language is selected in the top menu).

To edit default theme texts (e.g., “Buy” button), go to Online store > Edit, then select Theme info > Translations from the left menu.

Language menu in your online store

The store usually detects a visitor's language based on location. However, visitors can also change the language manually via the language selector shown at the bottom of the page.

You can customize the language selector’s location by editing the theme’s source code or by adding links to different languages in the store’s navigation. Adding links is usually easier, as editing source code requires coding skills.

Customizing the language menu (if 2 languages)

  1. Go to Online store > Navigation.

  2. Open the menu where you want to add a language link.

  3. Click Add new menu item.

  4. Type /en or another language code, like /sv for Swedish.

  5. From the options that appear, choose URL address.

  6. Enter the text and link for each language. For example, for Finnish/English:

    • Text (FI): English

    • Text (EN): Finnish

    • Link (FI): /en

    • Link (EN): /fi

  7. Click Add.

  8. Click Save (top right).

Customizing the language menu (if 3+ languages)

  1. Go to Online store > Navigation.

  2. Open the menu where you want to add the language menu.

  3. Click Add new menu item.

  4. Type a title like "Choose language".

  5. Select Text.

  6. Enter the label for each language, e.g.:

    • FI: Valitse kieli

    • EN: Choose language

  7. Click Add.

  8. Under that item, click Add new menu item again.

  9. Type /en or another language code.

  10. Select URL address.

  11. Enter the language name and link for each language. Use the destination language in all fields. For example, for English:

    • Text (FI): English

    • Text (EN): English

    • Link (FI): /en

    • Link (EN): /en

  12. Click Add.

  13. Repeat steps 8–12 for each language used in your store.

  14. Drag the new language items under the "Choose language" item and slightly to the right so they become sub-items.

  15. Finally, click Save (top right).

Translating receipts and messages

You should also translate your receipts and messages. In the admin, go to Online store > Settings and click Edit under Receipts or Messages. In each section, use the Translate button to edit the translations.

Translating checkout page texts

To find the checkout page:

  1. Go to Online store > Settings.

  2. In the Purchasing section, click Checkout page: Edit.

  3. In the checkout settings, use the Translate feature to edit the texts.
