Connecting Google Tag Manager

Connect your store to Google Tag Manager and manage your tracking yourself.

With the Google app, you can connect your Finqu store to Google Tag Manager (GTM) and manage your store's tracking yourself in GTM.

If you only want to use Google Analytics, the Connecting Google Analytics guide is the easier option.

1. Get your container ID from Google Tag Manager

Open Google Tag Manager and copy your container ID, which looks like GTM-XXXXXXX.

2. Install the Google app

  1. Go to Online store → Settings → Analytics.

  2. Find the Google section and click Install app.

  3. Confirm the installation in the panel that opens on the right.

  4. Click Authorize so the app can access your Finqu account data.

If the app is already installed, you'll find its settings under Online store → Settings → Analytics → Google.

3. Add the ID to your store

  1. In the Google app settings, set Tracking mode to Google Tag Manager (GTM).

  2. Paste the ID into the GTM Container ID field.

  3. Save your changes.

4. Set up your tags in Tag Manager

Your store sends events to the browser, and you decide in Google Tag Manager which tags fire, when, and which services the data is sent to.

Events sent by your store

Use these event names exactly as written when you create a Custom Event trigger in Tag Manager.

Store events

  • view_item

  • add_to_cart

  • remove_from_cart

  • begin_checkout

  • add_to_wishlist

Checkout events

  • add_shipping_info

  • add_payment_info

  • purchase

Other events

  • search

  • sign_up

  • generate_lead

Good to know: The latest themes send the events listed above automatically.

For advanced users: debug mode

Debug mode is meant for analytics specialists who want to make sure tracking and tags work. To turn it on, go to Online store → Settings → Snippets: add a new JavaScript field, set its type to "Essential for the store to function", paste the code below into it and save from the top right. The browser console will then show, among other things, the active tracking mode and the events being sent.
