Kustom Checkout: confirmation page upsell

Increase your average order value by showing product recommendations to customers after checkout.

Note: This feature is currently available on a limited basis. Please contact Finqu Customer Service to have it enabled.

What is post-purchase upsell on the order confirmation page?

Post-purchase upsell allows product recommendations to be shown to the customer on the order confirmation page, where they can be easily added to the same order even after payment. This provides a simple way to increase average order value by offering relevant add-on products at the right moment.

When using this feature, it is important to consider how added products may affect shipping and order processing.

How does it work?

Product recommendations are delivered to Kustom using a Google product feed, which you can generate in the Finqu admin. After payment, Kustom can show the customer additional product recommendations on the order confirmation page based on this feed. Before a product is added to the order, its availability is checked in Finqu to help prevent overselling.

What kind of products are suitable for upselling?

Because the integration does not validate or send updated shipping details back to Kustom after upsell products have been added to the order, we recommend using products that do not significantly affect shipping.

Suitable products include, for example:

  • small accessories

  • spare parts

  • lightweight add-on products

  • products that do not require a different package size, shipping method, or shipping price adjustment

It is best to avoid products that often:

  • significantly increase the size or weight of the shipment

  • require freight shipping or special handling

  • significantly change the shipping cost

Delayed activation and normal activation

Post-purchase upsell on the order confirmation page can be used in two different ways.

Option 1: Delayed activation

If delayed activation is enabled, the order is not activated immediately when the customer returns to the store after payment.

Instead, activation is postponed until the upsell flow has ended and Kustom sends the final callback. This is suitable if you want the upsell stage to be completed before the order is finalized in Finqu. The upsell stage lasts approximately a few minutes.

Option 2: Delayed activation is not enabled

If delayed activation is not enabled, the order is activated immediately according to the normal checkout flow.

With this setup, upsell products can still be added to the order after payment. However, if the customer adds products to the order, Kustom’s automatic capture will be disabled for that order.

This is expected behavior and is intended to ensure that the merchant can review the modified order before final processing, if needed.

Note: The merchant is responsible for reviewing order changes if they affect shipping or shipping costs.

What if there is a problem with the order?

If an upsell product causes issues related to shipping, pricing, or availability, the merchant can handle the situation manually. The order can be edited if needed, the customer can be contacted, or the order can be canceled.

Recommended use

For best results, choose upsell products that fit into the same shipment as the original order and do not require changes to the shipping method or order handling. Lightweight and easy-to-ship products that work well as impulse purchases after checkout are usually the best fit.
