Adding new languages to the merchant account

  1. Click Account from the top left corner of the page.

  2. Choose Settings > Localization from the left menu.

  3. Click Add on the Languages section.

Selecting languages for the sales channel

In order to edit the language in your online store's theme, you should first add it to the sales channel by following these steps:

  1. Go to Settings > General.

  2. Choose languages in the Localization section.

  3. Click Save.

Managing languages in the online store's template

How you manage languages in your online store depends on your theme.

Decision Tree
Choose the theme that you are using
  • Cobi or Cora
  • Milan, Stockholm, Boutique, or Bella
  • Add Button
In Cobi and Cora themes, there are two language selections in the theme editor.

On the left menu, there's a general language menu. This menu changes the language in which the content is shown and edited in the editor.

Each section of the template has its language selection where you can localize the translations to different languages. All sections don't necessarily need to be translated (for example, product lists with only product information), but if the section contains text or images, it usually needs to be localized for multiple languages.

First, you need to activate the languages in each section by clicking the Activate buttons.

When the languages are activated, you can see which of them is In edit at the moment. You can change the edit language from the editor's left menu.

In Milan, Stockholm, Boutique, and Bella-themes, having multiple languages requires language-specific temples. You can add templates for the new language by following these steps:

  1. Go to Online store > Design.

  2. Click Edit at the top right corner.

  3. Click Templates > Add template.

  4. Set a name to the template, for example, Default - eng.

  5. Choose a theme template file (default or fluid - default includes a sidebar on the left and fluid doesn't).

  6. Choose Page from the page type menu.

  7. Click Save.

If your store has multiple templates, each of them should also have a language-specific template. For example, the store might have a common template for most pages (product/product list) and another template for the front page. When you create language-specific templates, remember to name them clearly (e.g., Frontpage template - eng).

After all the templates are created, you can use them on your pages by following these steps:

Pages:

  1. Go to Online store > Pages.

  2. Open the page by clicking its name.

  3. Choose the template from the Template menu.

  4. Click Save.

Theme pages (e.g., product or product list):

  1. Go to Online store > Design.

  2. Click Edit at the top right corner.

  3. Choose the new language at the top of the left menu.

  4. Choose the page from the left menu where you want to change the template.

  5. Choose the template from the Template menu.

  6. Repeat steps 4 - 6 with all theme pages that are on the left menu.

Translating templates' content to the new language

After you've created the language-specific templates as instructed above, you can translate the content on the templates to the new language.

  1. Go to Online store > Design.

  2. Click Edit at the top right corner.

  3. Choose the new language at the top of the left menu.

  4. Choose the page from the left menu where you want to change the content.

  5. Click the content on the page that you need to translate.

  6. Make the changes to the settings on the right side.

  7. Important: Turn off the Shared content switch.

  8. Click Save.
