About language versions

A Finqu online can be translated into several languages. Ready-made translations are available in Finnish and English. In other languages, the merchant should translate the standard texts of the e-commerce theme, such as the buy button text. The availability of language versions depends on the service package you use. See the price list: https://www.finqu.fi/hinnasto.

Adding a language to your Finqu account

The first step in adding a language is to add it to your Finqu account.

  1. Go to Global settings in the top right corner menu.

  2. Click on the Edit button in the Localisation section

  3. Add the languages you want to use and click Save.

Writing translations

Once you have enabled a language in your Finqu account, you can translate, for example, your product information into different languages. At the bottom of the page, you will find a language selection box where you can choose the languages into which the page content will be translated.

Enabling a language in the online store

Once you have added your translations, you can activate the language in the online store.

  1. Under Localization, select the languages you want to use.

  2. Click Save.

Translating theme's texts

Once a language is enabled in your online store, you can add translations to its theme.

  • When editing a theme (Online Store> Edit), there is a menu on the top where you can select the language you want to edit. In the sections added to the page, there is a small language icon in the top right-hand corner, where you can activate the languages used in the sections. Once the languages are enabled, you can type the translations directly into the section (just ensure the correct language is selected from the top menu).

  • For standard texts in the theme (e.g., the text of the buy button), you can edit them by going to Online Store > Edit. Then from the left, Theme details > Translations.

Language Menu in Online Store

Usually, the online store automatically detects the visitor's language based on their location. However, visitors can choose to change the language from the language menu displayed at the bottom.

The location of the language menu can be changed either by editing the theme's source code or by adding links to different languages in the online store's navigation. Often, adding links is easier because editing the source code requires some coding skills.

CHANGING THE LANGUAGE MENU IF TWO LANGUAGES ARE USED

  1. Go to Online Store > Navigation.

  2. Open the menu where you want to add the language link.

  3. Click "Add new menu item".

  4. Type /en to the search field, or another language code, such as /sv for Swedish.

  5. Select the "URL address" from the menu that appears.

  6. Enter the menu texts and links for different languages. For example, if Finnish and English are used:
    - Type English in the "Menu text" (FI) field.
    - Type Finnish in the "Menu text" (EN) field.
    - Type /en in the "Link" (FI) field.
    - Type /fi in the "Link" (EN) field.

  7. Click Add button.

  8. Click Save button (top right).

CHANGING THE LANGUAGE MENU IF THREE OR MORE LANGUAGES ARE USED

  1. Go to Online Store > Navigation.

  2. Open the menu where you want to add the language menu.

  3. Click on "Add new menu item".

  4. Type in the desired text, such as "Select language".

  5. Select the Text option.

  6. Fill in the texts for different languages. For example, type Valitse kieli in the FI field and Choose language in the EN field.

  7. Click Add button.

  8. Click the Add new menu item link.

  9. Type /en or another language code into the search field.

  10. Select the URL address option from the menu that appears.

  11. Enter the texts and links for different languages. Note: always use the target language link in the text, so for English, for example, write English in all texts and /en in all links.

  12. Click Add button.

  13. Repeat steps 8 - 12 for all languages used in the online store.

  14. Drag the languages you added in steps 8 - 12 under the "Choose language" text, and slightly to the right, so they become sub-options.

  15. Finally, save the navigation from the Save button in the top right.

Translations of printouts and messages

It is also a good idea to translate printouts and messages. You can find them in the admin panel at Online Store > Settings > Purchasing. There you will find the Printouts and Messages sections to edit their settings and translations.

Translations of the checkout page

You can translate the texts on the checkout page of your online shop by going to Online Store > Settings > Purchasing > Checkout page: Edit, and in the Translations section, click on the Edit button.
